Exponent Laws

Q: What are the Exponent Laws?

A: There are 4 basic identities to remember:

  • a^n* a^m = a^(n+m)
  • Example: a^3* a^5 = a^8
  • a^n/a^m = a^(n-m)
  • Example: a^5/a^2 = a^3
  • (a^n)^m = a^(nm)
  • Example: (a^2)^4 = a^8
  • (ab)^n = a^n* b^n
  • Example: (ab)^3 = a^3* b^3
